FROM THE EXPERT

ERIC JOLY,
DIRECTOR OF PERFORMANCE

Since we all agree that winning is the ultimate goal, and that weight training and speed play a crucial role in the quest of that goal, how do we optimize speed development while we train in the weight room?

Research have shown that greater vertical forces (i.e. squats) do not equate to greater speed, since horizontal forces are the ones required to improve this quality. How can we develop horizontal forces, and especially, how can we quantify and measure progress, while we’re trying to improve horizontal forces. How can we establish proper strength, force, velocity ratios? Then we must ask the question, what kind of speed is required or appropriate for the athlete. Depending on the sport and position they play, different kind of speed is required.

The HiTrainer will give you data to evaluate your athlete’s Peak Speed, Acceleration, Explosiveness and BALANCE.

With this data, the coach will become very efficient at providing the athlete with ‘’the right kind of speed’’ by knowing more accurately which components of speed needs improvement.
